From Burnout to Resilience: How Present Moment Awareness Training Transforms Workplaces

In today’s world of constant distractions, competing demands, and relentless uncertainty, it’s easy to spend much of our lives anywhere but here.
We replay past mistakes, anticipate future problems, and get pulled into endless streams of “what ifs” and “should haves" that I call mental time travel.
However, this doesn't alter the simple truth that life only ever happens in one place — the present moment.
Every decision we make, every relationship we build, and every opportunity we act upon exists only in the here and now. The past is a memory. The future is a projection. It’s only in the present that we truly live — and, crucially, it’s only in the present that we can act.
When we spend too much energy ruminating on the past or worrying about the future, we disconnect from the only space where change is possible: this moment.
Research shows that much of our stress and distress doesn’t come from what’s happening right now, but from our relationship to our thoughts about the past and the future.
By becoming more aware of the present moment, you create space to notice what’s happening — both within you and around you — and respond intentionally rather than react automatically.
Put simply: If you’re not present, you’re not fully living.
At Bonmotus, our present moment workplace training programmes are built on the science of psychological flexibility. Learning skills to support this will deliver benefits in areas such as resilience, performance and productivity as well as reducing stress and burnout.
Through techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), we help people notice their thoughts and emotions without getting caught up in them. Participants learn how to contact the present and create the opportunity to do more of what really matters to them.
Present moment awareness plays a central role in this process. When you cultivate the ability to return to now, you create the space to:
Choose actions aligned with your values rather than old habits or fears.
Spot opportunities you might otherwise overlook.
Reconnect with meaning and purpose, even during uncertainty.
Perform more effectively, because your attention is where it matters most.
This is the foundation of sustainable performance, building resilience, making better choices and taking more effective action — for individuals, teams, and organisations.
In our Mind To ACTion and Values To ACTion programmes, we teach participants practical, evidence-based skills to anchor themselves in the present, increase psychological flexibility, and take purposeful action.
Our training supports people and teams to:
Reduce stress, overwhelm, and burnout
Improve focus, clarity, and decision-making
Strengthen resilience and adaptability
Create more meaningful, values-driven action
Because when your attention is here — in this moment — you can act more effectively, connect more deeply, and lead with greater clarity.
Yesterday doesn't allow us to choose and we don't get to act tomorrow. Life is happening now.
At Bonmotus, we give individuals and organisations the tools to work with the present, not against it — so they can do what matters, when it matters.
